'The work of laying out the grounds has been entrusted to Mr R.[sic] Smith of Newry, who was so successful in his landscape gardening in connection with the Glasgow Exhibition last year.'  First races held at end of Horse Show Week, 29 Aug 1902.

Nature: TS lays out grounds for same. 'Mr Smith has used wooden railway sleepers, placed on end, as a boundary wall all round:  these will be covered with laurels and other evergreens to form a hedge...In front of the stands all the trees have been cut down, so as to form an uninterrupted view of the surrounding country:  while in the paddock, behind the stands, rare shrubs and plants have been artistically grouped.'
