Nature: New cruciform Gothic cathedral for diocese of Ossory, with tower at crossing. FS laid 18 (or 20?) Aug 1843.  Consecrated 4 Oct 1857. Clerk of works: Cody. Total cost £25,000. Completed by unassisted voluntary subscription, amounting to £28,000. High altar 'an elaborate specimen, brought from one of the principal manufactories in Rome'.

Nature: Decoration of interior. Apse painted azure powdered with gold. Chancel ceiling has crimson ground with gold foliage, gilt cornice, pictorial panels on ceiling & walls, also geometric designs. Lady Chapel is largely azure, ceiling powdered with gold stars, inscriptions in mediaeval lettering. St Joseph's chapel has walls of grey purple with blue geometric forms & gold monograms &c.
