Date: 1853-54
Nature: New art gallery. Semicircular Roman Doric colonnade at entrance. Great Hall, 115 x 52 ft, with fluted Corinthian columns and 2 galleries, each 10 ft wide. Domed rotunda, 52 ft in diameter, at end.  In use by Jan 1857 but colonnade not yet erected for want of funds. Supervising architect: Richard Rolt Brash.   Builder: (1) William Brash (early construction work). (2) Cassidy (exterior work and roofing). Cut stone front by William Egan, Union Quay.   Internal stuccowork by John Church. Opened 25 Jan 1855. Officially opened by Lord Lieutenant, 22 May 1855.
