Nature: New Assembly bulding on site of old Fisherwick Presbyterian Church. Late Perp. style with square tower with corwn spire like St Giles's Cathdral, Edinburgh. Y & M appointed architects for same, after competition had been held. Decision of Thomas Drew, the assessor, was overridden and Y & M appointed instead. Tenders invited, Oct 1901.  Opened 5 Jun 1905 by Duke of Argyll. Contractor: Robert Corry. Cost: £70,000. Design claimed by Robert Magill Young in Who's Who in Architecture (1923). Architectural sculputre by Purdy & Millard and J. Edgar Winter.
