JRC wins competition and his design executed. New court house on site of old gaol and court house, parts of which incorporated in new building and newly faced. Builder: P. Morris. Clerk of Works: Mr Hutchieson. Estimated cost: £14,450. Loan of £15,000 from Board of Public Works. First assizes held, 5 Mar 1879, when building had only been completed for a few days.
