Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer. John J. Caffrey, son of JOHN CAFFREY JOHN CAFFREY , was born in Belfast in1901.(1) He graduated with the BE and BSc degrees from University College, Dublin, in 1921. After serving as an assistant county surveyor for the northern district of Co. Donegal, he became one of the two assistant county surveyors for the whole county in 1934. He was acting county surveyor from the time his father fell ill in 1937 or 1938 until the appointment of Thomas McMahon as engineer for the whole county in 1939. He remained an assistant county surveyor for the whole county until his retirement on 31 March 1966.(2) He died in 1976.
