Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Dublin and New Zealand, practising in Dublin during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. John James Aylward, who was born on 23 January 1912, may have been a son of FRANK AYLWARD. FRANK AYLWARD. (1) He started his career in the office of GEORGE LUKE O'CONNOR GEORGE LUKE O'CONNOR , whose partner he became, probably in 1938; the partnership of O'CONNOR & CONNOR & amp; AYLWARD  AYLWARD is mentioned in the Irish Builder for the first time in August 1938. He exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy from 1935 until 1941. In 1957 or 1958 he emigrated to New Zealand, but returned to the British Isles circa 1965, living first in Kent and then on the Isle of Man. He died circa 1979.

(1) In 1934 Aylward was living in the house of a Mrs Jessie Aylward at 59 Rathgar Rd; after Frank Aylward disappears from Thom's directories, a Mrs Jessie Aylward is named as living in his house at 6 Churchill Tce, Sandymount, in 1925.
