- Born: - Died: 1728
Amateur architect, M.P. for Dublin from 1703 to 1727 and Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1706, for whom see Edith Mary Johnston Liik, History of the Irish Parliament 1692-1800 (Ulster Historical Foundation, 1992), III, 316-8. According to a contemporary Burton was considered 'a connoisseur in architecture, for the gentlemen in this country that intend to build are continually begging plans for that purpose from him'.(1) The Architectural Publication Society's Dictionary of Architecture states that he designed Burton Hall, near Carlow, for himself in 1708; however, according to Burke's Irish Families, he did not purchase the estate until 26 September 1712.(2)
