Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and civil engineer.   According to the 1911 census, James Roseman Burns was born in England in 1876 or 1877, though he is elsewhere described as 'a Scottish gentleman resident in Dublin'. James Roseman Burns appears to have been associated for a time with the firm of J. & C. McGloughlin in Great Brunswick Street (see addresses, below). In 1907 he won the second prize of £30 in the competition instituted by Local Government Board for designs for labourers' cottages in rural districts.(1) He was also an entrant in the abortive competition for the Cork County and City Sanatorium in the same year.(2)
