Architect, of Dublin. Eoghan Buckley was born in Rathmines, Dublin, on 25 May 1907(1) and attended school at the Dominican Convent and the Catholic University School. He received his architectural training at University College, Dublin, under RUDOLPH MAXIMILIAN BUTLER RUDOLPH MAXIMILIAN BUTLER , graduating in 1930.(2) From 1933 to 1934 he was briefly in partnership with JOHN JOSEPH WINTERS JOHN JOSEPH WINTERS , practising as Winters & Buckley. In 1935 he formed a new partnership with JOHN JOSEPH O'GORMAN JOHN JOSEPH O'GORMAN , practising from 21 Merrion Square, Dublin, as BUCKLEY & BUCKLEY & amp; O'GORMAN GORMAN . Like O'Gorman, he was an enthusiast for modern architecture and visited Germany in 1937, where he was particularly impressed by the churches of Rudolf Schwartz. In 1953, when the building industry was hard hit by recesssion, O'Gorman emigrated to Canada. Buckley managed to survive the downturn and eventually formed a new partnership with Thomas J. Ryan. He retired in 1981. In 1991, when he was eighty four, he became a founding member of the Irish DoCoMoMo Working Party, the Irish chapter of DoCoMoMo International, the global heritage association dedicated to the works of the modern movement.(3)

Buckley died in 1995 and is buried in the churchyard of Kilcroney C of I church at Bray, Co. Wicklow. He married Freda Lochner, daughter of C. Lochner, a German-born pork butcher in Main Street, Bray, in 1942 and had three daughters. He was a noted tennis and rugby player and was also a keen bridge player and amateur photographer.

A profile of Buckley, including a photographic portrait, was published in the Irish Builder, vol. 93, 24 Nov. 1951, 1218.
