Builder, of Dublin, listed in Wilson's Dublin Directory for 1791-3 at 1 Merrion Street as 'Thomas Browne, junior' and in the edition for 1794 as 'Thomas Brown'. A Thomas Browne was admitted to the Corporation of Carpenters in 1783.(1) Harrison quotes a story related by J.P. Prendergast in which John Fitzgibbon, Earl of Clare(1749-1802), sent for a builder named Tom Brown, to come privately one night to his house, at No. 6, Ely Place, '"and told him that he was warned that his house would be attacked that night or the following, and he wanted the hall-door secured privately. This Brown did by placing three-inch planks of timber from the hall door to the cross wall, a very strong one, so that to burst open the hall-door it would be necessary to break down the cross wall."'(2) See also THOMAS BROWN [2]. THOMAS BROWN [2].
