Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Builder, of Carlow, who produced a design and estimate for a two-storey, five-bay gardener's house for Thomas 'Buck' Whaley in 1788; this was presumably for Whaley's demesne at Whaley Abbey, Co. Wicklow, which was only about twenty-five miles from Carlow. There is nothing about the drawing to suggest that Haydon had received any architectural training.(1)

(1) Elevation and plans, estimate and letter from Haydon to Whaley sold by Mealy's, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny, 28 Jul 1994;  bought by Alex Fotheringham, East Chesterhope, West Woodburn, Hexham, Northumberland, NE48 2RQ (see his Catalogue 22, p.6, no. 7).
