Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Civil engineering partnership practising from 49 Dame Street, Dublin, from about 1875 until the mid 1880s and consisting of HENRY BRETT  HENRY BRETT and first one and then both of his sons JOHN HENRY BRETT  JOHN HENRY BRETT and HENRY CHARLES BRETT HENRY CHARLES BRETT . The firm first appears in the 1875 Post Office Dublin Directory as 'Henry Brett & Son, civil engineers, measurers and valuators'. The Irish Builder, which makes an ealier mention of 'Mssrs Brett' of St Stephen's Green in 1871 in connection with works at Naas courthouse,(1) refers to 'Brett and Sons' from 1877-1881.(2)   During the 1870s the firm designed several branch banks for the National Bank. After Henry Brett's death in 1882, his two sons continued in practice as John H. & H.C. Brett.
