Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Welsh-born sculptor, for whom see Oxford DNB and Rupert Gunnis, Dictionary of British Sculptors 1660-1851 (revised edition, [1968]),  171-173.   Gibson, who lived in Rome for most of his life, executed the monument to Sophia, née L'Estrange, first wife of Edward Joshua Cooper, of Markree Castle, Co. Sligo, in Ballysadare Church of Ireland church at Collooney, Co. Sligo.(1)   According to Lewis the monument was 'executed at Florence'.(2)
