Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect in the Office of Public Works. Patrick F. McDonnell was born on 10 April 1909 and was apprenticed to JONES & KELLY  JONES & KELLY from circa 1929 and remained inn their office as an assistant until 1935.(1) During this period he also attended classes at the School of Architecture at University College, Dublin, and at the School of Art and Technical Institute. He joined the staff of the Office of Public Works in Dublin in 1935 and was sent to Dundalk soon afterwards. His career post 1940 falls outside the scope of this database.

RIAI: registered probationer, 1930; student, 1934; elected member, 1938.
RIBA: elected associate, 1965.

(1) He is described as B.Arch of the National University of Ireland in the RIBA Kalendar 1965-66 but does not appear in the University College Dublin Register of Graduates (1946).
