Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Chief engineer to the Belfast Harbour Commissioners from 1930 or earlier until 1942 or later. William Young Chamberlain was born on 2 March 1874 and attended school in Holywood, Co. Down before becoming a pupil in the engineers's department of the Belfast Harbour Commissioners under THOMAS ROSS SALMOND  THOMAS ROSS SALMOND in 1890. He remained in the department for the rest of his career, rising to the position of ge deputy chief engineer by 1929 and chief engineer by the following year. His pupils and assistants included JOSEPH MCFERRAN NEILL. JOSEPH MCFERRAN NEILL.

At the time of the 1911 census Chamberlain was unmarried.
