Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

French sculptor, for whom see Grove Dictionary of Art and Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Segoffin.    Segoffin executed the First World War memorial, a figure of Erin mourning her sons lost in battle, which was erected in the grounds of the Central School, Randalstown, Co. Antrim.(1)  The memorial, which is signed and dated A.J. Victor Segoffin  statuaire Paris 1923, was commissioned by Edward O'Neill, second Baron O'Neill, whose son, Arthur (1876-1914) was among the local men who died in the war. The sculpture is now in the grounds of Shane's Castle, Randalstown..

Nature: World War I memorial in form of figure of Erin mourning her sons killed in battle, presented to the town by the O'Neills of Shane's Castle, whose son Arthur O'Neill (d.1914) is among the local men commemorated.   (Originally in school yard but later moved to grounds of Shane's Castle.)
