Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Glasgow, for whom see Directory of British Architects 1834-1914 (RIBA 2001), II, 1028, and Dictionary of Scottish Architects (www.scottisharchitects.org.uk). In Ireland John Bennie Wilson designed the Crescent Presbyterian Church in University Road, Belfast, 1885-1887.(1)

Nature: New Early French Gothic church with 140ft campanile for Linen Hall St congregation. To accommodate 1,100 . Also school hall for 600, smaller hall for 250 and other accessory buildings. Design of JBW chosen in open competition, in which only one Belfast architect entered.) Contractor: Fitzpatrick Bros.
