WESTMACOTT, RICHARD (SIR) #

English sculptor, for whom see Rupert Gunnis, Dictionary of Bristish Sculptors 1660-1851 (revised edition, n.d.), 423-428. In 1801 Westmacott exhibited 'Part of a monument to be erected in Ireland' at the Royal Academy (No. 998). This monument has not been identified. According to Potterton, 'his only known work in Ireland is the very simple but excellent tablet' to the memory of Bishop Thomas Percy (1729-1811) in Dromore Church of Ireland cathedral, Co. Down.(1) A.P.W. Malcomson, The De Vesci Papers (Irish Manuscripts Commission, 2006), 166, notes that there are designs by him for a school-house at Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, with a drawing for a desk, among the De Vesci Papers, NLI, AD 3586.(2)
