Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architectural draughtsman and electrical engineer, of Dublin. James Boucher was articled to JOHN JOSEPH O'CALLAGHAN JOHN JOSEPH O'CALLAGHAN , serving his pupilage at the same time as WALTER GLYNN DOOLIN  WALTER GLYNN DOOLIN and WILLIAM JOHN FENNELL. WILLIAM JOHN FENNELL. (1) He became an assistant to GEORGE EDMUND STREET. GEORGE EDMUND STREET. (2) He is probably the 'J. Bouchier' who won a Royal Dublin Society Silver Medal for Architecture for his measured drawings of the Society's premises in 1872.(3) In 1875 he entered the competition for the Whitworth Testimonial, Drogheda.(4) By 1900 he had become district superintendent for the Edison and Swan United Electric Light Company.(5) He died between 1909, when he wrote an article, 'Fifty years of electrical progress', for the Jubilee Number of the Irish Builder(6), and 1912, when he is referred to as 'the late Mr Boucher'.(7)
