Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Dublin, active in the 1930s. Robert J. Tobin, who was born on 6 May 1907,(1) was articled to HIGGINBOTHAM & HIGGINBOTHAM & amp; STAFFORD  STAFFORD of Dublin for three years and stayed on in the practice as an assistant while attending classes at University College, Dublin. By 1933 he had become architect to the St Mobhi Public Utility Society.(2) His later address at 5 Lower Abbey Street suggests that he may then have worked for the Educational Building Society. It is just possible that he is the same person as Robert Joseph Tobin, who was practising as an architect in Pinner, Middlesex, in the 1950s and was elected a licentiate of the RIBA in 1956.(3)

AAI:(4) elected member, 1930; not on list of members after 1934.

Addresses: Work: 9 Bachelor's Walk, 1933-1935;(5) 5 Lower Abbey Street, 1934.(6)
Home: 8 The Crescent, Clontarf, 1930-1933;(7) 3 Haddon Road, Clontarf, 1934.(8)
