Civil engineer, of Ennis, Co. Clare.   Martin Tierney, who was born in Co. Clare in 1883 or 1884, was active as an engineer in Ennis from 1909 or earlier until 1933. In 1909 he and BRIAN EDWARD FITZGERALD SHEEHY  BRIAN EDWARD FITZGERALD SHEEHY were elected joint architects to the Ennis Asylum board.(1) Tierney was an assistant county surveyor for Co. Clare from 1918 or earlier until 1933, when he died or retired.   At the time of the 1911 census he was still unmarried, living with his brother who owned a bicycle shop in Ennis.

Tierney appears to have worked chiefly in Ennis, but he may possibly be the 'Mr Tierney' who was asked to draw up plans for a technical school in Skibbereen, Co. Cork, in 1926.(2)
