Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and civil engineer of Belfast, Salisbury and London. George Blount, son of Clavell William Simpson Blount, an officer in the Royal Navy, and his wife Elisabeth Ann, née Plant,(1) was born in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, in on 2 March 1870.(2)  He was educated at Christ's Hospital, London,(3) and served his articles with  HENRY SEAVER  HENRY SEAVER in Belfast .  In 1891, after spending a further year as assistant to WILLIAM BATT [2] WILLIAM BATT [2] , he joined the temporary civil staff of the Royal Engineers in Belfast    He remained in Belfast at least until 1897, also doing some private work.   His employment then took him to Plymouth and to Salisbury, where he opened his own office in March 1905. He remained in England - later moving to London - until his death in 1932.  He was a subscriber to George Lister Sutcliffe,ed., The Principles and Practice of Modern House-Construction (London, 1898).(4)

George Blount was an elder brother of ADELS ALEXANDER BLOUNT. ADELS ALEXANDER BLOUNT.

RIAI: proposed for membership 1 February 1897 by ROBERT GRAEME WATT ROBERT GRAEME WATT , seconded by GEORGE WILLIAM CROWE GEORGE WILLIAM CROWE , and elected 5 April 1897.(5)  Recommended for fellowship by FREDERICK HAYES FREDERICK HAYES , JAMES HENRY WEBB  JAMES HENRY WEBB and HENRY HOUGHTON HILL HENRY HOUGHTON HILL , 1924, and duly raised 1924.(6)
