Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Town surveyor of Newry, Co. Down, from before 1907 until at least 1958. Charles Blaney succeeded JOSEPH LEYCESTER DEVENISH MEARES  JOSEPH LEYCESTER DEVENISH MEARES as town surveyor of Newry between 1902 and 1907, when his salary was increased from £150 to £200.(1) It was increased again in 1915 to £300 per annum.(2) He held the post for well over fifty years, until at least 1958.(3) He was awarded the MBE in the 1950s.
