Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and land surveyor, of Drogheda and Dublin, later resident in England. Frederick Shaw, who may have been English by birth, was articled to Henry R. Price of Manchester. (1)  He was practising independently in Drogheda by the late 1890s and by 1904 he had also opened an office at 36 South Frederick Street, Dublin.    In 1900 he is described as architect to the trustees of Lord Holmpatrick's estate.(2)   During the First World War, at the end of 1915 or early in 1916, he joined the Royal Engineers.(3) He remained with the Royal Engineers after the war and does not appear to have lived permanently in Ireland again.
