Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Town surveyor of Dundalk, from 1902 until 1922 or later. Maurice Sellars, a son of Dr Peter, Sellars, JP, of Dundalk, and his wife Marion (née Clark)(1) was born on 12 January 1873. He was educated at the Christian Schools and St Mary's College, Dundalk. From 1890 until 1896 he served his pupilage under James Wynne of Dundalk. He then became an assistant to FRANCIS JOHN LYNAM FRANCIS JOHN LYNAM , County Surveyor for Co. Tyrone; he was based in Omagh when he was appointed borough surveyor of Dundalk on 2 December 1902 in succession to JAMES GASKIN. JAMES GASKIN. (2) He held the post until at least 1922 and probably until about 1930.(3)   At the time of the 1911 census he had been married for nine years to his Co. Tyrone-born wife, Mary Josephine, and had two daughters.

ICEI: elected member, 6 Mar 1912;(4); delivers paper, 'Tarring of Roads', 3 Jan 1916;(5) still on list of members for 1930 but not on that for 1933.(6)
