REID, ROBERT #
- Born: 1774 Died: 1856
Scottish architect, of Edinburgh, for whom see Howard Colvin, A Biographical dictionary of British architects 1600-1840 (4th edn., 2008), 847-849. For Ireland Reid made designs for the new county gaol at Downpatrick, which were approved by the Grand Jury in 1820, by the Lord Lieutenant in 1823 and by FRANCIS JOHNSTON , architect to the Board of Works, in 1824.(1) It is not clear whether his design was superseded by plans of JOHN LYNN [1] or whether Lynn supervised the erection of Reid's design.
See WORKS, for Irish work only.
