BENZONI, GIOVANNI MARIA *#

Sculptor, of Rome. Giovanni Maria Benzoni executed several statues of the Virgin for Catholic churches in Ireland and was one of the sculptors engaged to execute the bas-reliefs on the Wellington Monument, Phoenix Park.(1) His statue of Pope Pius IX which was exhibited at the Dublin International Exhibition of 1863 was purchased by Cardinal Cullen for Holy Cross College, Clonliffe.(2)
