ABBEY, CHARLES *#
- Born: 1836c Died: 1901
English architectural sculptor, born in Hull, Yorkshire, circa 1836,(1) who was for a short time during the early 1860s in partnership with CHARLES WILLIAM HARRISON in Dublin. The firm of Abbey & Harrison had premises at 27 Great Brunswick Street.(2) Charles Abbey subsequently returned to England; he was living as a boarder in Wells, Somerset, when the English census of 1871 was taken. He eventually set up his own business at Richmond, Surrey, and died at his house on Richmond Hill on 21 August 1901.

(1) IB 45, 21 May 1903, 1764. He may be the Charles Abbey, son of Charles and Elizabeth Abbey, who was christened at Drypool, Hull, on 25 Jun 1837 (www.familysearch.org), but the English census returns of 1841 and 1851 give his age as 6 and 15 respectively. He was already fatherless by 1841.
