Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer, of Drogheda and Wicklow. According to his 1911 census return, John Pansing was born in Cork in 1848 or 1849.  He served his apprenticeship with Grendon & Co., Drogheda, from 1865 to 1872, and then worked for eight years as assistant to the county surveyor of Louth, PARKE NEVILLE PARKE NEVILLE . In 1880 he moved to Co. Wicklow to work under WILLIAM GEORGE STRYPE  WILLIAM GEORGE STRYPE on various projects, which included the construction of the East Pier at Wicklow, the Wicklow waterworks, and works at the harbours of Bray and Greystones. He was appointed an assistant county surveyor for Co. Wicklow in 1885 and town surveyor for Wicklow Town in 1900.(1) He died at the age of sixty-seven on 18 March 1917. At the time of the 1911 census he had been married to his wife, Anne Jane (née Kennedy)(2) for thirty-three years, and had nine children.
