Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Borough surveyor of Athlone, Co. Westmeath, 1915-1931. According to the Irish census of 1901 Patrick John O'Loughlin, eldest son of Timothy O'Loughlin, district superintendent of the Midland Great Western Railway at Mullingar, and his wife, Susan, was born in Co. Monaghan circa 1888.   He was awarded the degrees of B.Sc. and BE by the National University of Ireland.   Initially based in Mullingar,(1) he succeeded VALENTINE DENIS DOYLE  VALENTINE DENIS DOYLE as town surveyor of Athlone after the latter's resignation in July 1915. In 1919 he was an unsuccessful candidate for the Roscommon county surveyorship.(2)   The following year,  he was appointed joint architect with J.J. McNamara for the Athlone Urban Council housing scheme.(3)   He remained town surveyor for Athlone until his death in 19 May 1931, when he was succeeded by OWEN DOYLE. OWEN DOYLE. (4)
