Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and engineer, of Earl Street, Dundalk, active from the first decade of the twentienth century until 1950 or later. Vincent O' Connell, fourth son of Henry O'Connell, grocer, of Dundalk, and his wife, Mary, was born in Co. Louth in 1882 or 1883.   He became a pupil in the office of of HAGUE & HAGUE & amp; MCNAMARA  MCNAMARA in Dublin(1) before setting up in practice in Earl Street, Dundalk, in 1906 or earlier. He was appointed engineer to the Newry Port and Harbour Trust in 1910 in succession to JAMES BARTON JAMES BARTON (2) and had opened a branch office in Newry by the autumn of 1911.(3)  He married after 1911, when, according to the 1911 census, he was still living as a bachelor with his parents in Earl Street, Dundalk.  By 1944 he had taken a son into partnership, practising as V.J. O'Connell & Son.

RIBA: passed preliminary examination qualifying for admission as probationer, June 1901.(4)
