Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English architect, for whom see DNB and Directory of British Architects 1834-1914 (RIBA 2001),II, 273-4. In Ireland Norton designed Powerscourt Church of Ireland church at Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow. The choice of architect was presumably that of Elizabeth, Marchioness of Londonderry, who paid for the church to be built as a present for her son, Mervyn, 7th Viscount Powerscourt, on his coming of age in 1857.(1)

Building: CO. WICKLOW, ENNISKERRY, CHURCH OF ST PATRICK (CI, POWERSCOURT PARISH)
Date: 1857-63
Nature: New church to hold 350, given to 7th Vct Powerscourt as a coming of age present by his mother Elizabeth, Marchioness of Londonderry, who bore entire cost of  £3,411.9s.2d. FS laid by Lord Powersscourt Sep or Oct 1857. Consecrated 15 Sep 1863.  Copper spire substituted for a slate one. Church criticised for being too small.
