Clerk of works with the Office of Works in Dublin and Edinburgh, for biography of whom see Howard Colvin, A Biographical dictionary of British architects 1600-1840 (3rd edn., 1995), 707. William Nixon, who was born circa 1810, may have been the elder brother of CHARLES NIXON CHARLES NIXON . If this is so, it seems likely that he would, like his brother, have trained in the office of JOHN NASH JOHN NASH . He was working in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, when he was transferred to Edinburgh in April 1840. He spent the rest of his life in Scotland, where he designed buildings in both Edinburgh and St Andrews. He died in 1848.
