Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer and architect, of Dublin, active in the late 1860s. William O'Brien Newell, who appears to have been a son of William Homan Newell, joint secretary of the National Board of Education,(1) received the Licentiate in Civil Engineering from Trinity College, Dublin, in 1868(2) and was elected a student of the RIAI on 20 May 1869.(3) He does not appear to have practised as an engineer or architect but by 1874 had joined the staff of the Board of National Education as an inspector of schools.(4)
