Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer. Charle McNeill was born in Co. Down on 21 September 1883 and attended the Royal Academy, Belfast, from 1896 to 1902. He served his apprenticeship with BERKELEY DEANE WISE BERKELEY DEANE WISE , engineer of the Northern Counties Railway, from 1902 to 1906. On completing his apprenticeship he was engaged by the Office of Public Works as a temporary assistant engineer to make an inspection of the Royal Canal. He also made various small surveys at different places on the Irish Coast and in 1908 was appointed resident engineer in charge of repairing and lengthening the pier at Downings Bay, Co. Donegal. He had moved to Dublin by April 1911(1) and by 1914 had been appointed superintendent of works of the Royal (Government) Harbours in Ireland, based in Dun Laoghaire. He retired in 1934 or 1935 and died in June 1939.
