Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Assistant county surveyor for Co. Down from 1915(1) or earlier until 1948(2) or later. According to the census of 1911, John McKeown was born in Larne, Co. Antrim, circa 1871.   The census describes him as a surveyor;  at that time he was a thirty-year-old bachelor boarding in a house at 30 Newcastle Street, Kilkeel, Co. Down.  He was architect of an Orange hall and caretaker's house in Greencastle Street, Kilkeel, which was  'about to be built' in September 1916.(3)

Association of Municipal & County Engineers: admitted member, 1 October 1921.(4)
