Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer, active from the 1890s until 1907 or later. Walter T. McCann can probably be identified as Walter Thaddeus McCann, son of John Henry McCann, merchant, of Eastbourne, Roundtown, Rathfarnham,Co. Dublin, and Elizabeth Florence McCann, née McNamara, who was born in Rathfarnham on 21 August 1866.(1) He was educated at Stonyhurst College from 1879 to 1883 and at the College of Science in Dublin from 1883 to 1886, after which he served a one-year pupilage with GUSTAVUS NEWENHAM HAMILTON KELLY GUSTAVUS NEWENHAM HAMILTON KELLY , chief engineer to the Great Western Railway Co. From 1897 until 1893 he worked as an engineer in Australia, returning to Ireland in 1893 to become assistant engineer to the Grand Canal Company. By 1907 he had been appointed borough surveyor to Drogheda Corporation,(2) probably in succession to NICHOLAS HATCH NICHOLAS HATCH . He resigned from the post in May, 1908.(2) His later career is not recorded.
