Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English military engineer. Colonel Richard Wharton Myddleton of Old Park, Co. Durham,(1) a veteran of the Penisular War and uncle of Mary, wife of the third Earl of Rosse, designed the Vaubanesque fortifications surrounding Birr Castle, Co. Offaly, in 1846-48.(2)
