Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Dublin. Michael Brophy Moran, whose only known executed works are Catholic churches, was probably a son of Michael Moran, builder and slater, of 15 John Street West, which he gives as his own address in Thom's directories for 1855 and 1856. These premises were next to the Augustinian church in John Street West, which may account for the fact that he was commissioned to design Augustinian churches in Drogheda and Galway. He also designed two Catholic churches for the diocese of Melbourne, Australia. He disappears from Thom's directories after 1865.

A Michael Moran was admitted to the Royal Dublin Society's School of Drawing in Architecture on 4 November 1847,(1) and an M. Moran was one of the thirteen entrants in the Rathgar Presbyterian church competition of 1860.(2)

Addresses: 15 John Street West, 1855-56; 140 Stephen's Green West, 1857; 3 Castlewood Avenue, Rathmines, 1860;(3) Castlewood Avenue, Rathmines, 1863; 20 Belgrave Road, Rathmines, 1864-65.
