Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English sculptor, for whom see Who was who 1941-1950, 788. Merrifield was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy between 1906 and 1943. For Ireland he executed the statues for the First World War memorials at Lurgan, Co. Armagh, and Comber, Co. Down, and the colossal statue of Lord Carson which was placed in front of the Northern Ireland parliament buildings at Stormont, Belfast, in 1933. He also sculpted the bronze statue of Lord Craigavon on the main staircase inside the parliament buildings.
