- Born: - Died: -
Architect, land surveyor and civil engineer, active in Belfast in the 1850s and 1860s. His connection, if any, with the William T. Matier who produced a directory of Belfast in 1835 and 1837 or with the William T. Matier, engineer and land surveyor, who was living at Annesley Bridge, North Strand, in 1846 and 1847 is not clear.(1) 'William J. Matier' is listed as a civil engineer, valuator, architect and surveyor at 44 Arthur Street Upper in the Belfast and Province of Ulster Directory for 1861-62.
(1) Jones transcripts from Thom's directories (classified section); Pettigrew & Oulton's Dublin Almanac (1847); Peter Eden, ed., Dictionary of Land Surveyors (1975), 176, has Matier active from as early as 1837.
