MALLET, RICHARD *

Ironmonger and smith, of Dublin. Richard Mallet, fourth son of John Mallet, blacksmith, of North Tawton, Devon, and his wife Jane (whose brother, Richard Cunnett, was also a blacksmith) and an elder brother of ROBERT MALLET  , was baptised in North Tawton on 23 July 1745. He trained as a blacksmith and and also developed other businesses as a shopkeeper and dealer. Following the failure of these businesses in 1800, his elder son JOHN MALLET moved to Dublin, and soon afterwards the whole family, consisting of Richard Mallet, his wife, his daughter, Jane, and his younger son, William, followed. Richard Mallet had established an ironmongery business at 90 Marlborough Street by 1806.(1) He was employed as a smith on the building of St George's church, Dublin, from 1808 onwards(2) and took his son William into partnership in 1813 or 1814.(3)
Richard Mallet died on 18 December 1817.(4) He was the grandfather of ROBERT MALLET .
