Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer and architect, of Dublin. Patrick Francis Leonard served his pupilage with Charles Hazlett Swiney, CE, and appears to have stayed on as his assistant. Following Swiney's death, circa 1868, he set up in independent practice.(1) He was engineer to Drumcondra Township perhaps from as early as 1876, when his plan for the Glasnevin and Drumcondra drainage scheme was published in the Irish Builder,(2) until his death in 1897,(3) when he was succeeded by MICHAEL JAMES BUCKLEY. MICHAEL JAMES BUCKLEY. (4) The Charles P. Leonard, also described as an architect and engineer, who practised from 34 Ormond Quay Lower and lived at 218 Clonliffe Road, in in the opening years of the twentieth century, was presumably his son or brother.(5)
