Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Sculptor, of Dublin, for biography of whom see W.G. Strickland, A Dictionary of Irish Artists (1913), I, 571. John Kelly worked chiefly as a wood carver - he carved Irish oak capitals for RICHARD CASTLE'S  RICHARD CASTLE'S dining hall at Trinity College, Dublin(1) - but collaborated with JOHN HOUGHTON  JOHN HOUGHTON on the carving of the coat of arms and other decorations on the stone pediment at Carton, Co. Kildare, in 1739.

A John Kelly, carver, of Eustace Street exhibited at the Society of Arts between 1765 snf 1769 and again in 1771.(2)  One or more persons of this name attended the Dublin Society's School of Drawing in Architecture in the 1760s and 1770s, winning awards on 9 February and 27 April 1769 and on 26 May 1774.(3)
