KEATINGE, WILLIAM SEDGWICK
- Born: 1887 Died: 1964
Architect, of Dublin. William Sedgwick Keatinge, a son of Joseph Francis Keatinge, JP, building contractor of Grafton Street, Dublin,(1) and his wife, Marianne, was born in Dublin on 28 December 1887. He appears to have been working in the office of EDWIN BRADBURY in 1907-1908 and of O'CALLAGHAN & amp; WEBB in 1909-12.(2) In 1913 or 1914 he joined the Office of Public Works. In 1917 with WILLIAM GERATY CLAYTON he won the competition for designing premises for the National University of Ireland in Upper Mount Street, Dublin.(3) He left the Office of Public Works in about 1920 and joined the firm of DONNELLY MOORE KEEFE & amp; ROBINSON . When Keefe and Robinson set up their own practice in Merrion Square in 1925, Donnelly and Moore, who remained in the Sackville Street office, took Keatinge into partnership as DONNELLY MOORE & amp; KEATINGE . This partnership lasted until 1937, when the three architects went their separate ways. Keatinge set up in independent practice at 33 Molesworth Street, where he appears to have retained an office until his death. By 1951 he had succeeded WILLIAM FRIEL as architect to the united Church of Ireland dioceses of Ossory, Ferns and Lieghlin.(4) He died very suddenly on 5 August 1964 and was buried in Mount Jerome cemetery.(5)
