Architect, of Dublin. Edward Kavanagh, who was probably the son of a Dublin tradesman and elder brother of the landscape artist Joseph Malachy Kavanagh, RHA, was born on 3 May 1845 and received his architectural training in the office of JOHN MCCURDY. JOHN MCCURDY. He joined the architectural staff of the Board of Works as principal draughtsman on 12 July 1881 and retained this position until his death on 28 March 1901.

He shared this house at Clontarf with Joseph Malachy Kavanagh, RHA (1856-1918), the landscape painter, who was presumably a younger brother; in the 1870s J.M. Kavanagh had lived at 101 Great Britain Street, where a Mrs Kavanagh, who was most probably his mother, had a provision shop.
