Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Assistant county surveyor for Co. Offaly from 1881 or earlier until or 1887 or later.   James Barr, who was also engineer to Edenderry Board of Guardians, designed the police barracks at Rhode, Co. Offaly,  in 1883 (1) and was responsible for repairs and alterations to the Church of Ireland church at Edenderry, Co. Offaly, in 1891.(2)  He had died by 1900, when his post had passed to HORACE R. WATERS. HORACE R. WATERS. (3)

(3) Evelyn Barr, a widow who was the proprietress of a hotel in Main Street, Edenderry, at the time of the 1911 census, may formerly have been James Barr's wife.   If so, according to the census return, he had married her circa 1881 and had had five children.
