Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer, of Manchester, for whom see Oxford DNB and memoir in Min. Proc.ICE 39 (1874-5), 251-264. William Fairbairn designed a flour mill at Milford, Co. Carlow,(1) and was consulting engineer for the construction of the Lough Island Reavy and Corbet Lough reservoirs on the River Bann in the 1830s and 1840s.(2) The firm of William Fairbairn & Son was responsible for the erection of the Dublin, Wicklow & Wexford railway bridge over the River Dodder near Lansdowne Road, Dublin, circa 1854,(3) and was the patentee of the box-girder system used in the construction of the Lough Atalia bridge, Co. Galway, for the Midland Great Western Railway Co.(4)
