Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English railway engineer, for biography of whom see Oxford DNB and Min. Proc. ICE 135, Pt. 1, 328-337. John Fowler was responsible for the design and construction of the first portions of the London Metropolitan Railway system from 1860, and (in association with Sir Benjamin Baker) for the Forth Railway Bridge, opened in 1890. In Ireland he acted as consulting engineer for the Great Northern and Western Railway in the 1860s and for the Limerick & Kerry Railway in the 1870s and 1880s.(1)
